Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and effective challenge to credit ratings assigned by external asset managers
  • Review and recommend new counterparties for settlement, derivatives and reinsurance transactions
  • Monitor and evaluate the credit risk of derivative counterparties and derivative positions
  • Provide deep dive analysis into emerging credit concerns including comparative analyst opinions, analytical sector studies and potential impact to capital positions
  • Lead the annual exercise to set board and internal management limits pertaining to credit risk for the investment portfolio including derivatives; Review requests for limit waivers for approval or denial
  • Provide recommendation to Head of Credit Risk on credit impairment decisions
  • Provide recommendation to Head of Credit Risk on changes to credit risk management policies
  • Prepare and oversee materials for management committees and Board level meetings
  • Lead the implementation of a Counterparty Approval System using corporate technology resources
  • Collaborate with Investments, Legal, Treasury and Finance as well as the internal risk organization to effectively achieve risk management goals
  • Provide leadership and direction to junior associates in the team
  • Respond to Ad-hoc inquiries and project management issues

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Over 15 years of experience in buy side fixed income desk including fundamental credit analysis and credit risk management on a multi-asset, multi-currency portfolio
  • Thorough understanding of fundamental credit, sector and industry drivers, common derivative products
  • Thorough understanding of fixed income products such as Bonds, Structured Finance, Municipals, Commercial Mortgages, LBOs, Mezzanine Debt, etc.
  • Prior experience in a high-yield or credit work out unit is highly desirable
  • Ability to articulate and write a credit based rationale to counter external asset manager ratings
  • Experience with counterparty approval process including review of new counterparty names
  • Proven experience with technology to build and manage a work flow system for counterparty approval
  • Strong experience in developing and reviewing credit risk management policies
  • Good demonstrable understanding of ALM, income enhancement and risk mitigation strategies
  • Familiarity with internal and regulatory controls with respect to securities and derivatives programs
  • Ability to influence without authority and provide effective challenge to investment manager opinions
  • Excellent team player with great communication and project management skills
  • Undergraduate degree with a professional certification such as CFA, FRM or MBA
  • Formal credit training through prior employment
  • Strong business writing and business presentation skills
  • Prior management experience is desirable
