Role Value Proposition:

The Enterprise Business Intelligence function is accountable for how Brighthouse Financial defines, disseminates, and utilizes the wealth of data that we collect about our products, customers, processes, and marketplace. As a member of the The Data & Analytics Organization, this individual will help deliver consistent, trustworthy, timely and actionable information to Brighthouse Financial employees, external constituents and internal and external applications in order to help the organization make better operational, tactical, and strategic business decisions. The BI team will do this by delivering key operating and performance metrics and analytical insights in the form of reports, scorecards, dashboards, self-service BI applications, mobile BI, embedded analytic applications and analytical datasets.  

 

The Senior Business Intelligence Solution Engineer will partner with business stakeholders from our functional teams (Actuary, Investments, Treasury, Tax, HR, Compliance, Finance, Marketing, Distribution, etc.) to create an enterprise business intelligence semantic reporting layer which will provide a single version of the truth for the metrics used to help Brighthouse Financial make better operational, tactical and strategic business decisions.  The individual in this position will combine expertise in data warehousing, relational databases, business intelligence applications, report development, data visualizations, and Agile delivery principles to provide innovative business intelligence, reporting and analytic solutions.   

 

This position will report into the AVP of Enterprise Business Intelligence, and will work closely with peers in data integration and management, data governance, architecture, and key business stakeholders to design and develop BI reporting.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Create and own the enterprise “semantic layer” of key operational and performance metrics supporting a single version of the truth for enterprise metrics.
  • Design BI reporting and solutions that promote consistent meaning and use of data through an enterprise taxonomy to promote standardization and reusability.
  • Responsible for the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of the enterprise BI semantic layer.  The individual in this position will use the enterprise BI tool (BIRST) to source, model and report on data from the enterprise data warehouse and a variety of additional source systems.  
  • Development of sustainable OLAP reporting solutions to help business functions run their organization and maximize Brighthouse’s data assets. 
  • Support the self-serve community by defining and creating governed, global metrics, filters, attributes, etc.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

  • Strong SQL design/scripting skills.
  • Expertise in transforming data into visually appealing reports and dashboards that are easily consumed.
  • Strong team and relationship building skills.
  • Strong desire to understand the business context of the data.
  • Understand the fundamentals of a dimensional data warehouse model and how to optimize the way data is organized for consumption in self-service BI tools.
  • Ability to prioritize requests and set expectations with stakeholders.
  • Strong desire to grow, learn and succeed.
  • Motivation to stay up to speed on industry best practices and new technologies.
  • Strong communicator, good business sense, decisive, trustworthy, proactive, flexible and open minded.
  • Comfortable working with vendors and contractors and providing them with direction.
