Role Value Proposition:

 

Partnering with the Brighthouse Agile Transformation Team, the Scrum Master will work within an Agile delivery team as a dedicated team member.  The Scrum Master will facilitate for one or more teams, ensuring the best use of Agile practices and ceremonies while reinforcing the Agile principles and values.  The Scrum Master will coach the team to self-organize and continuously improve, while ensuring impediment escalation and removal. The Scrum Master will oversee proper metrics generation to maintain visibility both within and outside of the team with respect to delivery progress.

 

A differentiating factor in BHF’s future state IT environment is the leverage of cloud-based, software-as- a-service offerings for the vast majority of its business functions. This will present unique challenges and opportunities for usage of Agile and other delivery methodologies.  The Scrum Master will report into the Agile Transformation team to help create and spread its message by example. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Continually reinforce the Agile principles and values for the delivery team members and stakeholders.
  • Help the team identify, raise, and resolve impediments.
  • Facilitate and assist Agile Scrum or Kanban teams in ceremonies including standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives, and PI planning sessions.
  • Provide situational coaching and support to team members to optimize their use of Agile.
  • Become a SME in the Agile Application Lifecycle Management tools of Brighthouse and enforce proper use by the team.
  • Help teams enable built-in quality by executing practices such as DevOps, CDCI Pipeline, Integrated Test Strategies, and automation.
  • Lead and participate in communities of practice – populated with both Brighthouse and vendor employees – that serve to both promote best practices and solicit input on how to continuous improve operations. 
  • Participate in Agile organizational design discussions, making suggestions on Agile operating models based on knowledge, experience, observation, and team input.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

 

  • Must demonstrate solid understanding of Agile principles, values, and ceremonies.
  • Servant / leader mindset (while emphasizing accountability) is critical.
  • Must be a passionate / high-energy individual.
  • 1-2 years experience as Scrum Master or similar role preferred, and/or 3 plus years experience on an Agile team.
  • Must be comfortable working with all types of teams (IT, Marketing, Actuarial, Business Intelligence)
  • Must be comfortable working on a teams that include other BHF employees as well as 3rd party vendors.
  • Experience managing / coordinating / escalating external dependencies for a team.
  • Agile Certification desired.
