Role Value Proposition:

The Enterprise Data Management and Analytics function is accountable for how Brighthouse Financial defines, disseminates, and utilizes the wealth of data that we collect about our products, customers, processes, and marketplace. As a member of the the Data Management & Analytics Organization, the Director of Data Governance is responsible for establishing, improving, monitoring, and training for the Data Governance program at Brighthouse Financial.  Working directly with business executives, data stewards, and IT leadership, this position will provide strategic leadership within the IT organization, setting and leading the enterprise Data Governance strategy for the organization.  The emphasis will be on maturing Brighthosue Financial’s Data Governance practices, formalizing stewardship and data domain ownership, improving data integrity, and reducing operational risk due to data quality issues.  The person in this role will provide routine and on-demand communications to stakeholders on data governance concerns.

 

This position will report into the AVP of Enterprise Data Management, and will work closely with key business stakeholders from finance, actuarial, investments, product, marketing, distribution, IT, and other functional areas of the business.  

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Oversee the Data Governance Council, to include scheduling meetings, preparing the agendas, facilitating the meetings, tracking and following up on action items, and recording and distributing the minutes.
  • Identify, train, and maintain a roster of data stewards and domain owners.
  • Ensure that key IT and business stakeholders stay engaged in the Data Governance program by ensuring that the Data Governance Council is focused on the right strategic issues facing the business.
  • Oversee the Data Governance Domain working groups that meets on a regular basis, and ensure that their activities are consistent with those of the Data Governance Council.
  • Review and document best practices in Data Governance within the industry, and conduct periodic reviews of capabilities and maturity.

 

  • Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


Experience leading a Data Governance or Data Quality Management function is required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Business Information Systems or relevant work experience
  • 12+ years of experience within the financial services industry, knowledge of securities, investment, and insurance products, positions, transactions, and investment performance data
  • Experience in data warehouse and data mart design and implementation
  • Excellent data modeling (conceptual, logical and physical), mapping and analysis skills
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
